Barcelona trip sketches are here!
We had a grand time in Spain--- my first visit. Barcelona reminds me of southern French cities and towns I've been to, which is not surprising since it is about three inches away from the French border. Well, five inches. It is a lovely, laid-back, slightly gritty, place.
My favorite things about Barcelona were the magnificent food market, the mercat de la Boqueria, the best I've seen in Europe for sheer variety, quantity, beauty, and Gaudi's Parc Guell. That Gaudi---I'd like some of what HE was having.
Here's the first installment of this trip's sketches. More to come.

Wonderful sketches - can't wait to see the rest of them! Really makes me want to go back there and draw and draw - esp. Gaudi's work! (I only had 2 days there 5 years ago...before I was sketching!)

What a trip--and for US, too. who can walk along beside you. Did you do those pigeons with your Akashiya Kai watercolor brush pens? That aqua color is so bright and the marks so
calligraphic.

Love the quick ink lines, and your color palette, and just how easy and natural your drawing and painting appears. A total delight.

These are really lovely Laura (I'll try to behave here). Great to see these. And I want more. Park Guell?
How was the weather?

Wonderful, wonderful sketches, Laura. I love Barcelona for all you have mentioned—art, architecture, food and of course, Gaudi.

Wonderful sketches, Laura, all of them. Your pigeons are stunning, brought to life as they are through your gorgeous Laurelines.

The page of birds is really neat. I like that they're at different levels of filled-in-ness.

What a treat - Barcelona seen through Laura's eyes! Your line is sinuous and elegant, and your use of color so distinctive.

Beautiful sketches. If I don't check in to your blog for a while, I miss so much! What sort of ink or pen do you use for your sketches? Love those pigeons.

Beautiful sketches that really whet my appetite for this place I have always longed to visit. I just KNOW that I would have to be drug away from all that fantastic architecture.
I look forward to your further discussion of brush pens. I have the standard pentel pocket brush pen, and I feel sure that there are many others that I NEED!

oooh, lovely! I really love the brush pen--I was using my Pentel again this morning. You've gotten such wonderful, expressive lines and shapes...

Great drawings! I like the expression and rhythm in your lines. And, Barcelona is so wonderful! That market is so cool, did you do any drawings there? I loved the dark alleys in the old section...so many fun things!
