Chapter the Last: Barcelona Musicians

In which our heroine discovers that the best things in life are free.

On the last day in Barcelona, I was strolling the heights of Parc Güell when I heard the most sublime music ever---it was jazzy and ethereal at the same time. I couldn't imagine what instruments could produce those sounds! Following the park's sinuous paths to the source of the music, I joined the spellbound group of listeners. Here is what we saw:IMG_1647

And here is what it sounded like, that hang drum, that clarinet, that kora, played by those so talented men:

and: Beautiful, no? Another night we went to a pricey performance of flamenco music at el Tablao de Carmen. It was the dinner theater version of flamenco---touristy and soulless. Making flamenco soulless---that's quite a feat.IMG_1520

One for my Sunday post I think. Amazing music - and so much better I would imagine in the open air.

What's the upside down wok thing that's he playing?

Lovely sketches too! :)

what a treat you put togeather---great to see and hear---your talent will help you soar thru life...

Great drawings.

What beautiful music. Thanks so much for sharing. Must have been a wonderful trip

The music is divine. How lovely to hear it live. And topped with sketches, what more could I ask for?

What beautiful music. Thank you for bringing back these sounds from Spain to us.

wow!!!

I just love it when you travel...thanks for "taking all of us along" again with you...the serenade was fantastic! :)

Just beautiful! Thanks so much for letting us share this.

I love the music - and your sketches really capture the musicians.

You captured these guys beautifully, Laura! The sentiment in your post reminds me of Joni Mitchell's song "For Free."

I've been enjoying the music. Many thanks, Laura.

It shows in the sketches, where you were most inspired and relaxed. That's why the first two are my favourites. Wonderful - done on the spot with people milling around; amazing!

Thank you so much, kind people. I'm glad you liked the music, too---wish I'd bought several copies of their fantastic cd, but only bought one.

That music is indeed heavenly and the drawings are delicious as well.

We were there in October. Isn't it a fun city? Your sketches are wonderful! xoxox
