This foodie illustration job is taking longer than it was supposed to, but don't they all. In between drawing and painting food, and thinking about drawing and painting food, I take walks.
I've begun a little illustrated walk journal, for the fun of it in itself, but also to get in the spirit for my upcoming stay in Brittany. I'll be painting there, but I want to keep a small daily sketch journal, too, with text incorporated with the images on each page. (I have already posted some pages from this journal, below.) My sketchbooks in the past have consisted largely of sketches, with very little, if any, text. I have used this blog to tell the stories that accompany those sketches and I will continue to do that. But it'll be fun to make little illustrated travel journals, don't you think?
So, a sketch from this week's foodie world (not one of the illustrations for the book, just a personal record of a lovely Wednesday evening with my husband), as well as a few pages from my walk journal.

This weather really is to die for, isn't it! I haven't been to the Carolina Inn in a long time--you captured its feel here, Laura--and all the walk finds are beautiful, too.
The crepe myrtles are such wonderful bursts of color here, aren't they?! Love your latest journal!

Gorgeous - all of them. I'm particularly taken with the crepe myrtle stem and the description of the sky...

Wow! The Carolina Inn looks lovely...of course all your sketches do, but this is just luminous! It GLOWS.

Hi Laura! Yes, I like the text integrated with your beautiful sketches, and it will be so much fun to look back at them later. I hope my ankle will be completely healed by October, so I can do some walking and sketching with you.

That David does take you to the nicest places!! I've been missing your restaurant sketches, Laura but this one more than makes up. Can't stop looking at it.
The new journal will be a beautiful way for us to 'walk' with you - other than lucky Ms Casey, of course who WILL get to walk and sketch with you.

Beautiful watercolours. I think the bottom one, with the crimson myrtle looks like a japanese painting or print. So graceful.

Laura,
I have always wanted to do a travel journal, however I alway seem to get caught up with taking photos rather than sitting sketching as we seem to always be on the go. Maybe I should sketch from my photos? I love to write and enjoy the notes you have taken along with yoru sketches. I particularly love the sketch from dinner at the inn. What kind of pen did you sketch with, the tip is quite thin? Thank you for the lovely comments, you are too kind, and I would welcome one of your hugs any day my dear! :)
