I'd been out last night with my close friends A and E to le Clos des Gourmets, one of my favorite restaurants here. We had a wonderful time with lots of girl talk, lots of wine, a pumpkin and chestnut and hazelnut soup for me, followed by wild duck flavored with garlic and sesame and the lord knows what else, and a trifle with chocolate, chestnuts and single malt whisky. Wow is right. We walked home down the wide avenues, with the Eiffel tower sparkling like a giant diamond pendant in the night sky.
This morning I went to Paris' new museum, le Musee du Quai Branly, with its permanent collections of art from all continents and cultures and ages. A grand place it is, too. I just got my toes wet. I'll go back often. Here are some funerary masks from the Teotihuacan culture, 150- 650 AD, with a statuette from the same period: (Click for more detail.)
I had lunch at la Fontaine de Mars, a very friendly and cozy restaurant I'd discovered on my walks earlier this week. (Click for larger image.)
Here I had leeks vinaigrette and fresh sardines with tomato sauce fashioned into a cake shape (gateau) with coffee ice cream surmounted by an almond tuile. Tonight I'm having two tablets of ibuprofen, followed by three leftover raspberries and a piece of dry toast.
Tomorrow my friend A and I are taking the train to Compiegne to see the chateau there. A la prochaine---see you the next time!

Sardine cake? I don't know about that, but the drawings are wonderful...so fresh and elegant at the same time, especially the people.

I can't tell you all how much fun it is to have you along as I make my way through Paris! Funny as it sounds, I carry each of you with me and sometimes think 'Oh, Anthony will like this,' or "Lin and Teri and Terri will get a kick out of this, ' or 'France will remember this' or 'Kate will see the blue ochre here' or "I wonder what Marly will see in this' and on and on. The only thing that is better than doing the things I'm doing is my ability to share it all with you ---and that's no merde ;D.

This is all such fun to see and read about, Laura - thank you for sharing it with us all.
