The Boqueria Market in Barcelona is the most spectacular such market I've ever seen. It is immense and lively and colorful, brimming with fresh produce, fish, meat, spices, confections, pastries, and copious amounts of other specialties of the region. If you can eat it or drink it, and it was made locally, you'll find it there. My sketches only give tiny peeks, including this large EEL, (in Catalan,'el congrio'), dominating a fishmonger's stall, into the cornucopia that is Boqueria. For more info click on this link.
The mammoth in the bottom sketch (click for bigger) was my plan B for the day. I'd intended to sketch the large fountain at Parc de la Ciutadella, but when I got there, I found it covered in scaffolding. I used a new orange pen I found at an art supply store in the old town----it's not my fave, as it turns out. (It helps to blame your art supplies when things go awry while sketching.)
I just came to Barcelona, i am french and i am looking for informations about this beautiful city, i have found a lot of blogs and particulraly one is very intesresting.
Please find enclose the link if you want to have a look.

These are beautiful sketches - I love the curving lines and the way they flow. Looking forward to seeing your watery stuff - bon voyage (on the wrong post - oops sorry!)

Thank you, everyone! Bonny, after reading 'The Tin Drum' by Gunter Grass, I lost whatever inclinations I might have had (and they were slim to none ;D) for eating eel. But this one was sure fun to draw!

Great sketches! I really like the eel drawing with it's swift fluid lines. The market sketch really conjures the place too!

Super sketches, Laura!!
Did you ever try eating eel? It's popular in many parts of Europe. As a little girl living in Germany, we would often get either pickled or smoked eel as treats on special occasions. For some people it's an acquired taste, but if you like it there are tons of recipes, seemingly different for every region, too.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
